The Annual Australian Qur’an Competition is a national, scholar-guided platform celebrating excellence in memorisation and recitation.
The Annual Australian Qur'an Competition (AAQC) is a prestigious national event dedicated to fostering love for the Qur'an by showcasing excellence in recitation and memorisation across Australia.
Categories
Participants compete across age and memorisation levels, ensuring both accessibility and high standards in the following categories.
30 Juz
Whole Qur’an memorised
20 Juz
Top or bottom – consecutive
Two-thirds of the Qur’an memorised
10 Juz
Top or bottom – consecutive
One-third of the Qur’an memorised

Preliminary round

Preliminary recitations are conducted virtually with participants.

Selected finalists are officially announced for the national event.

National competition and awards ceremony take place.
Judges
AAQC is led and guided by respected shuyukh and qualified qurrā’. Their role is not only to assess, but to uphold the standards, adab and integrity of Quranic recitation.

Dr. Mohammed “Shaykh Abu Omar” Khalissi has mastered the 10 Qira’at of the Qur’an. He is a well respected master in the Quranic Science of Tajweed who has been committed to teaching students in both academic institutions as well as in his private time.
He is an excellent example of the pristine chain of transmissions within the Quranic Sciences, to which he is dedicated to upholding.

Sh. Abu Omar

Sh. Abdulrahman Abdullahi
Shaykh Abdulrahman Abdullahi brings over two decades of dedicated Quranic education to our panel of judges. A respected Ustadh and Head Teacher at Islamic schools across Melbourne, he has guided countless students in memorising the Quran, producing many Huffadh under his expert tutelage.
His deep knowledge, commitment to excellence, and profound impact on the community make him an esteemed voice in Quranic education.
Sh. Moustafa Hassan
Imam of Huntingdale Masjid and Quran Teacher at Mount Hira, Sheikh Moustafa is a graduate of Al-Azhar University, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Tafseer & Uloom al-Quran and a Bachelor’s degree in Hadith & Uloom al-Hadith.
He was also a student of the Quran teacher Sheikh Abdullah Jumma, who was a close companion of the renowned Quran reciter Sheikh Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi.
