Rules and eligibility

To participate in the Annual Australian Qur'an Competition, applicants must meet the following requirements. Please read this page carefully before registering.

Residency

Australian residents only

Geographic eligibility

Participants must maintain legal residency in Australia.

Residency status must remain valid throughout registration and the competition year.

Legal status requirements

Accepted status

  • Citizen
  • Permanent Resident

Not eligible

  • Tourist or temporary visa holders
This policy ensures registration integrity and prevents unverifiable enrolment.

Age requirements

Categories by division

2026 age cutoff date

Cutoff date: 1 January 2027

Participants must meet age requirements as of 31 December 2026.

30 Juz category

≤ 30 years

Whole Qur’an memorised

Age limit: 30 years, born on or after 1 January 1996

20 Juz category

≤ 20 years

Top or bottom – consecutive
Two-thirds of the Qur’an memorised

Age limit: 20 years, born on or after 1 January 2006

10 Juz category

≤ 15 years

Top or bottom – consecutive
One-third of the Qur’an memorised

Age limit: 15 years, born on or after 1 January 2011

Preparation

Excellence standards required

General standards

Strong memorization, proper Tajwid, and mastery of recitation rules required for your category.

Teacher approval

Teachers must verify student readiness and only approve adequately prepared participants.

Winner restrictions

Top 3 winners cannot compete in the same or a lower category. Different divisions are allowed.

Conduct and integrity

AAQC holds the dignity of the Qur'an and the integrity of the competition to the highest standard. All participants are expected to uphold proper adab and respectful conduct throughout the competition.

Maintain adab

Conduct yourself respectfully at all stages of the competition.

Follow instructions

Participants must follow all directions from organisers and judges.

Protect integrity

Dishonest or disruptive behaviour may result in disqualification.

Documentation and consent

  • All information provided during registration must be truthful
  • Parents or guardians must provide consent for minors
  • Participants agree to recitations being recorded for official purposes

Final decisions regarding participation

AAQC reserves the right to verify eligibility at any stage of the competition and make final decisions regarding participation.

Where eligibility cannot be confirmed, or information is found to be inaccurate, AAQC may withdraw a participant's registration.

All decisions made by the competition committee regarding eligibility are final.

Common questions

What happens if I register in the wrong category?

Participants who register in an incorrect category may be disqualified if requirements are not met.

Can a participant be disqualified after the competition starts?

Yes. Disqualification may occur at any stage if conduct or eligibility standards are breached.

Is there an appeals process?

Eligibility decisions are final. Procedural concerns may be submitted in writing within 24 hours.
